What is SaviorGBV?

SaviorGBV is an impact Gender-Based Violence Campaign to raise awareness of the staggering GBV rates in South Africa. This project aims to use Artistic Activism to create a safe and cathartic space for all involved. We use dance and other creative arts to bring our message across.

The #SaviorGBV2022 Project is a dance music video using the song ‘Savior’ by Kendrick Lamar. This project was self-funded and combined all three elements of GODANCE: Dance, Motivation and Film.

This project aimed to use dance as a cathartic and creative process for those involved. Very often we feel helpless around issues of Gender-Based Violence. Additionally, we never know who has experienced any form of this violence, thus providing a safe space for people to release pent-up feelings in any regard is part of the therapeutic process for them.

We hope this project will initiate an ongoing dialogue around how to use the creative arts as a framework for countering the issue of GBV. To be a part of this conversation e-mail: simonemomple@godance.co.za
